A Morning With The Birds

There’s something special about heading out early with the camera, long before the rest of the world wakes up. The light is softer, the birds are more active and the whole landscape feels calmer and more connected. This week I spent a morning at one of my favourite East Yorkshire spots, hoping to catch some early movement among the local birdlife.
As always, some birds were far more cooperative than others. The robins were first to appear, hopping confidently around the undergrowth and offering plenty of chances for close-up shots. A wren darted through briefly — too quick for the frame this time — and a buzzard circled high above in perfect light.
The highlight of the morning was a kingfisher flashing past the waters edge, a burst of colour that never loses its impact no matter how many times I see it. I didn’t catch it with the camera this time, but moments like that are often as valuable as the photographs themselves.
I’ll be sharing some of the images from this outing in the gallery soon, and I’m already planning the next early start. There’s always something new waiting in the quiet of the morning
If you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look at my wildlife photography, you can explore more images from the project in my Birds & Wildlife portfolio. It features a curated selection of moments from the field, ranging from intimate close-ups to dynamic behavioural shots.
