If you need to configure the camera quickly, use the following checklist:

• AF-C autofocus

• Bird subject detection enabled

• Wide-Area AF (L) or Auto-area AF

• Manual exposure with Auto ISO

• Shutter speed around 1/2500 for flight

• Continuous High burst shooting (20 fps RAW)

• RAW image format

• FX image area

• ISO: Auto ISO with upper limit around 6400

• File Format: RAW

• Image Area: FX

• Metering Mode: Matrix

Autofocus Setup

Reliable autofocus is essential for bird photography.

​

• Focus Mode: AF-C

• Subject Detection: Birds

• Base AF Area Mode: Wide-Area AF (L)

Additional useful modes:

• Dynamic-Area AF
  For more precise control in busy environments

• Auto-area AF
  For automatic subject detection across the frame
